The original helm was found with a mostly complete harness in Apulia, Southern Italy. It has been dated to around 330 B.C.
This helm has been constructed from two halves in brass, it has a very deep skull with cut outs for the ears and large hinged cheek plates. The helm is decorated with engraved wings, a pair of spring feather holders and an elevated crest mount. There are brass rings at front and rear to secure the crest to the helm.
