Description
ID 688
A faithful reproduction of the 8th Century Anglo-Saxon helmet found in York. The skull is from heat treated 0.8mm spring steel. The check plates and nasal are edged with enclosing brass borders. There is a 6mm internal diameter riveted mail ventail attached via riveted brass rings. The hand carved and cast brass decoration is closely copied from the original helmet, with the repeated dragon motif and intertwined decoration on the nasal. The raised Latin script in the brass cross reads
