Gilling Sword

Catalogue ID: 689

Description An accurate reproduction of the Gilling sword. This sword features a rather long blade with wide central fuller and sharpened edges. The grip is constructed from alternating panels of antler and buffalo horn. The most striking feature of this sword is the decorated silver bands and panels on the pommel and grip. They have the same stamped motifs as the 9th century sword from North Yorkshire. The sword is completed by a timber core leather covered scabbard and leather baldric, with silver chape.
