An accurate reproduction of the Gilling sword. This sword features a rather long blade with wide central fuller and sharpened edges. The grip is constructed from alternating panels of antler and buffalo horn. The most striking feature of this sword is the decorated silver bands and panels on the pommel and grip. They have the same stamped motifs as the 9th century sword from North Yorkshire. The sword is completed by a timber core leather covered scabbard and leather baldric, with silver chape.

A faithful reproduction of a princely, 14th C arming sword in the Reichsstadtmuseum Rothenburg, Germany. The diamond section blade has been hand polished to a mirror finish. The spine starts at 6mm and has a complex distal taper to the point. It is finished with a brass and silver inlay of the teutonic cross and a silver escutcheon on the reverse side. The fittings are decorated with alternating panels of silver and copper. Making chevrons on three sides of the guard and a complex cross motif on the pommel The scabbard has a poplar core covered with leather and finished with a pierced Brass throat and typical chape. A copy of the Thorpe falchion complete with inlaid brass makers mark and engraved hollow copper alloy pommel. The dimensions have all been copied from the original with a blade length of just under 32 Inches, a balance point of 5 3/4 inches and the completed weight of 980g. The original currently weighs in at 904 g but given the extent of corrosion and the lack of grip, 980g is probably pretty close to what it weighed when new. The scabbard is a leather covered timber core with belt and chape typical of the period.

Despite this swords appearance and slightly higher than normal weight is is beautifully balanced and an absolute joy to fight with. The scabbard is based in examples from the Maciejowski bible again. Done with a very delicate timber core is leather covered and has a complex X style belt held in place with risers and slits in the leather of the scabbard that straps pass through. The leather over timber grip has a gentle central swelling. The pommel has a Roman coin inset in each face. The scabbard has been copied from that of Fernando de la Cerda 1270.
