Composite helmet

Catalogue ID: 499

Description German first quarter of the 16th C. This kind of helmet is quite common in german manuscripts from the time, though survivals are rare. Generally a lighter, cheaper helmet but like all things, fine, high quality examples were made for people who disired the best. The disks are made from 0.65mm spring steel with bevelled corners, they are hardened and tempered to 48 Rockwell C. Brass rivets attach the disks to their canvas base, which is padded and lined with 100% silk velvet. The padded lining and its velvet cover can easily be removed for cleaning. The chin strap, also covered with velvet, is finished with a hand made brass buckle and strap end.
