Gothic War Saddle
Catalogue ID: 649
Description Reconstruction of a War Saddle from the Deutsches Historisches Museum, in Berlin. The original, and horse armour displayed with it, has been dated to 1480-1490, making it a fine example of a Gothic saddle. Our reproduction is comprised of a solid timber tree in lightweight yet very strong poplar, reinforced with fabric and finished with red leather. The steels are from heat treated spring steel, attached with hand made screws. The saddle pads are several layers of heavy wool encased in a woollen sleeve matching the colour of the leather. The saddle is custom fitted to both horse and rider, and the design of the saddle spreads weight very evenly on the horse, with no pressure on its spine.
